Book: John · ← John 6 · John 8 →
1
EN After these things, Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
^1
2
LA Erat autem in proximo dies festus Judæorum, Scenopegia.
EN Now the Jews feast of tabernacles was at hand.
^2
3
EN And his brethren said to, him: Pass from hence and go into Judea, that your disciples also may see your works which you do.
^3
4
EN For there is no man that does anything in secret, and he himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, manifest yourself to the world.
^4
5
LA Neque enim fratres ejus credebant in eum.
EN For neither did his brethren believe in him.
^5
6
LA Dicit ergo eis Jesus: Tempus meum nondum advenit: tempus autem vestrum semper est paratum.
EN Then Jesus said to them: My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.
^6
7
EN The world cannot hate you: but me it hates, because I give testimony of it, that the works thereof are evil,
^7
8
EN go you up to this festival day: but I go not up to this festival day, because my time is not accomplished.
^8
9
LA Hæc cum dixisset, ipse mansit in Galilæa.
EN When he had said these things, he himself stayed in Galilee.
^9
10
EN But after his brethren had gone up, then he also went up to the feast, not openly, but, as it were, in secret.
^10
11
GR οἱ οὖν Ἰουδαῖοι ἐζήτουν αὐτὸν ἐν τῇ ἑορτῇ καὶ ἔλεγον: ποῦ ἐστιν ἐκεῖνος;
EN The Jews therefore sought him on the festival day and said: Where is he?
^11
12
LA Et murmur multum erat in turba de eo. Quidam enim dicebant: Quia bonus est. Alii autem dicebant: Non, sed seducit turbas.
EN And there was much murmuring among the multitude concerning him. For some said: He is a good man. And others said: No, but he seduces the people.
^12
13
EN Yet no man spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews.
^13
14
LA Jam autem die festo mediante, ascendit Jesus in templum, et docebat.
EN Now, about the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
^14
15
GR ἐθαύμαζον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λέγοντες: πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς;
EN And the Jews wondered, saying: How does this man know letters, having never learned?
^15
16
EN Jesus answered them and said: My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
^16
17
LA Si quis voluerit voluntatem ejus facere, cognoscet de doctrina, utrum ex Deo sit, an ego a meipso loquar.
EN If any man will do the will of him, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.
^17
18
EN He that speaks of himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks the glory of him that sent him, he is true and there is no injustice in him.
^18
19
GR οὐ Μωϋσῆς ἔδωκεν ὑμῖν τὸν νόμον; καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐξ ὑμῶν ποιεῖ τὸν νόμον. τί με ζητεῖτε ἀποκτεῖναι;
EN Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law?
^19
20
GR ἀπεκρίθη ὁ ὄχλος: δαιμόνιον ἔχεις: τίς σε ζητεῖ ἀποκτεῖναι;
LA Quid me quæritis interficere? Respondit turba, et dixit: Dæmonium habes: quis te quæret interficere?
EN Why seek you to kill me? The multitude answered and said: You have a devil. Who seeks to kill you?
^20
21
EN Jesus answered and said to them: One work I have done: and you all wonder.
^21
22
EN Therefore, Moses gave you circumcision (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers): and on the sabbath day you circumcise a man.
^22
23
GR εἰ περιτομὴν λαμβάνει [ὁ] ἄνθρωπος ἐν σαββάτῳ ἵνα μὴ λυθῇ ὁ νόμος Μωϋσέως, ἐμοὶ χολᾶτε ὅτι ὅλον ἄνθρωπον ὑγιῆ ἐποίησα ἐν σαββάτῳ;
LA Si circumcisionem accipit homo in sabbato, ut non solvatur lex Moysi: mihi indignamini quia totum hominem sanum feci in sabbato?
EN If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath day, that the law of Moses may not be broken: are you angry at me, because I have healed the whole man on the sabbath day?
^23
24
LA Nolite judicare secundum faciem, sed justum judicium judicate.
EN Judge not according to the appearance: but judge just judgment.
^24
25
GR Ἔλεγον οὖν τινες ἐκ τῶν Ἱεροσολυμιτῶν: οὐχ οὗτός ἐστιν ὃν ζητοῦσιν ἀποκτεῖναι;
EN Some therefore of Jerusalem said: Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
^25
26
GR καὶ ἴδε παρρησίᾳ λαλεῖ, καὶ οὐδὲν αὐτῷ λέγουσιν. μήποτε ἀληθῶς ἔγνωσαν οἱ ἄρχοντες ὅτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ Χριστός;
EN And behold, he speaks openly: and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers known for a truth that this is the Christ?
^26
27
EN But we know this man, whence he is: but when the Christ comes, no man knows, whence he is.
^27
28
LA Clamabat ergo Jesus in templo docens, et dicens: Et me scitis, et unde sim scitis: et a meipso non veni, sed est verus qui misit me, quem vos nescitis.
EN Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying: You both know me, and you know whence I am. And I am not come of myself: but he that sent me is true, whom you know not.
^28
29
LA Ego scio eum: quia ab ipso sum, et ipse me misit.
EN I know him, because I am from him: and he has sent me.
^29
30
LA Quærebant ergo eum apprehendere: et nemo misit in illum manus, quia nondum venerat hora ejus.

^30
31
GR Ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου δὲ πολλοὶ ἐπίστευσαν εἰς αὐτόν, καὶ ἔλεγον: ὁ Χριστὸς ὅταν ἔλθῃ μὴ πλείονα σημεῖα ποιήσει ὧν οὗτος ἐποίησεν;

EN Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while I am with you: and then I go to him that sent me.
^33
34

^34
35
GR εἶπον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι πρὸς ἑαυτούς: ποῦ οὗτος μέλλει πορεύεσθαι, ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐχ εὑρήσομεν αὐτόν; μὴ εἰς τὴν διασπορὰν τῶν Ἑλλήνων μέλλει πορεύεσθαι καὶ διδάσκειν τοὺς Ἕλληνας;
